DataGerry Section Templates<\/h3>\n

The new \u2018Section Templates<\/strong>\u2019 function allows users to create customised sections and insert them into type configurations using drag & drop. The feature is useful when the same group of fields (a section<\/strong>) is used for different types. Section templates speed up the creation and modification of types and make it unnecessary to create recurring sections for types from scratch again and again.<\/p>\n

The new“Section Templates<\/strong>” can be found in DataGerry at the top right under Framework => Section Templates<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the section templates overview, all created templates are displayed with their PublicID, name, type and the corresponding actions (more on this later). In the top left-hand corner of the table is the \u2018Add\u2019 button, which can be used to create new section templates. <\/p>\n

Creating section templates<\/h3>\n

In this form, a section template can be created in the same way as in the type configuration by dragging and dropping elements from the \u2018Controls\u2019 sidebar into the \u2018Fields\u2019 area of the section. The only control that is not available for section templates is the special control Location, as a type can only have one of these controls and can therefore only be set directly in the type configuration. In addition, there is a checkbox in the header of the section in which the template can be defined as a global template (more on this topic later). This cannot be changed when editing a section template. If the checkbox is not ticked, the template created is of the \u2018Standard<\/strong>\u2019 type. <\/p>\n

Use section templates<\/h3>\n

Once the section templates have been created, they can be used in type configurations. There are two new areas in the sidebar of the type configuration, the \u2018Global Section Templates<\/strong>\u2019 area, which contains all global and predefined templates, and the \u2018Section Templates<\/strong>\u2019 area, which contains all standard section templates. They can be added to the type configuration via drag & drop, just like a new section is added. Global section templates cannot be edited in the type configuration. <\/p>\n

Section template types<\/h3>\n

There are three different types of templates, each of which fulfils a specific purpose. Below you will find an overview of the features of the individual section template types.<\/p>\n

Standard Section Templates<\/h4>\n

\u25cf It can be stored multiple times within the same type configuration if required
\u25cf After it has been dragged into the type configuration, it can be further modified and additional fields can be added or existing ones deleted.
\u25cf It can be converted into a global section template
\u25cf Changing a standard section template in the template configuration does not affect instances of the template that are already in use
\u25cf There is no programmatic connection between the standard section template and the type<\/p>\n

Edit section template<\/h4>\n

Redirects the user to the editing form for the section templates. This action is not available for predefined templates. Editing a global section template in this form affects all types and objects that use this template. <\/p>\n

Clone section template<\/h4>\n

This action allows users to create a clone of an existing template (including a predefined template). A pop-up window opens in which you can specify the name and type of the template. After confirmation, the clone is created. A cloned predefined template is either of type standard or global. <\/p>\n

Transform standard template<\/h4>\n

This action can be used to convert a standard template into a global section template. When the template is converted, it is considered a new global section template, which means that the previous uses of this default template on types are not tracked. Users should bear in mind that this action cannot be undone. This action is only available for standard templates. <\/p>\n

Indicator for global templates<\/h4>\n

This is only an indicator that this template type is \u2018Global<\/strong>\u2019 and should mean that this type cannot be transformed. All predefined templates are also global templates. <\/p>\n

Delete template<\/h4>\n

Section templates can be deleted with this action. Please note that deleting a global section template also removes this and all set values of types and objects. The number of affected types and objects is displayed in the confirmation pop-up. Predefined templates cannot be deleted. <\/p>\n

This permission grants all the below mentioned permissions and allows the user to do anything with the section templates<\/p>\n

This right is required to access the section template via <\/span>Framework => Section Templates<\/strong>. It is also required for the “Open preview” action. <\/p>\n

This right is required to create new section templates. Together with <\/span>base.framework.sectionTemplates.edit <\/span><\/strong>it is necessary to clone templates.<\/p>\n

DATAGERRY Section Templates<\/h3>\n

The new feature \u201cSection Templates\u201d <\/strong>will give users the ability to build custom sections and insert them via drag and drop in type configurations. It is useful when the same group of fields(a section<\/strong>) is used for different types. Section templates will speed up the creation and modification of types as well as remove the need to create recurring sections for types over and over again from scratch.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The new \u201cSection Templates\u201d <\/strong>can be found in DATAGERRY at the top right corner at Framework => Section Templates.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the Section Templates overview all created templates are displayed with their PublicID, Name, Type and the corresponding actions (later more about this topic). At the top left corner of the table is the \u201cAdd\u201d-Button with which new section templates can be created.<\/p>\n

Creating Section Templates<\/h3>\n

In this form a section template can be built the same way as in type configurations by drag and drop of elements from the \u201cControls\u201d-Sidebar into the \u201cFields\u201d-area of the section. The only control that is not available to section templates is the special control Location since a type can only have one of these and is therefore only setable directly in the type configuration. Additionally there is a checkbox in the section header where the template can be defined as a global template(more on this topic later), this can not be changed when editing a section template. If the checkbox remains unchecked the created template will be of type \u201cStandard\u201d<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Using Section Templates<\/h3>\n

After the section templates have been created they can be used in type configurations. In the sidebar of the type configuration are two new areas, the \u201cGlobal Section Templates\u201d <\/b>area <\/b>\u00a0which contain all global and predefined templates and the \u201cSection Templates\u201d <\/b>area which contains all Standard Section Templates. They can be added to the type configuration via drag and drop the same way a new section would be added. Global section templates are not editable inside the type configuration.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Section Template Types<\/h3>\n

There are three different types of templates each with a specific purpose. Below is an overview of the characteristics of each section template type.<\/p>\n

STANDARD SECTION TEMPLATES<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It can be dropped multiple times inside the same type configuration if required
\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After it is dragged inside the type configuration it can be further modified and additional fields can be added or existing ones can be deleted
\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It can be converted into a global section template
\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Changing a standard section template in the template configuration won\u2019t affect already used instances of it
\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There is no programatical connection between the standard section template and the type<\/p>\n

Global Section Templates<\/h3>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It can be dropped only once inside the same type configuration
\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It can not be further modified after it was added to a type configuration
\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Changes to the global section template in the template configuration will affect all existing instances of the template<\/p>\n

\u25cb\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Example 1:<\/b> Adding a field will add the new field to all existing instances of this template
\u25cb\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Example 2: <\/b>Removing a field will also remove this field from all existing instances of this template (the stored value is lost)
<\/b>\u25cb\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Example 3:<\/b> Deleting a global section template will also delete the section and its data from all types and objects which are using it<\/p>\n

Predefined Section Templates<\/h3>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They have the same characteristics as global section templates but are delivered by DATAGERRY
\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They are not editable or deletable by the user
\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Users can create a clone of predefined section template but the clone will no longer be considered as a predefined section template<\/p>\n

There are different actions for created section templates depending on the template type. Below is an overview and explanation of each.<\/p>\n

Open Preview<\/h3>\n

Opens a preview of the section template which will display how the created section and its fields will look like.<\/p>\n

Edit Section Template<\/h3>\n

Redirects the user to the edit form for the section template. This action is not available for predefined templates. Editing a global section template in this form will affect all types and objects using this template.<\/p>\n

Clone Section Template<\/h3>\n

With this action users can create a clone of an existing template(even a predefined template). A popup will open where the name and the type of the template can be set. After confirmation the clone will be created. A cloned predefined template is either of type standard or global.<\/p>\n

Transform Standard Template<\/h3>\n

A standard template can be transformed into a global section template by pressing this action. When the template is transformed it is seen as a new global section template which means that the previous uses of this standard template on types are not tracked. Users should consider that this action can not be undone. This action is only available to standard templates.<\/p>\n

Global Template Indicator<\/h3>\n

This is just an indicator that this template type is \u201cGlobal\u201d<\/strong> and should represent that this type can not be transformed. All predefined templates are also global templates.<\/p>\n

Delete Template<\/h3>\n

With this action section templates can be deleted. Consider that deleting a global section template will also remove it and all set values from types and objects. The amount of affected types and objects will be displayed in the confirmation popup. Predefined templates are not deletable.<\/p>\n

Section Templates - Rights<\/h3>\n

The section for managing Section Templates has its own set of rights.<\/p>\n

base.framework.sectionTemplates.*<\/h3>\n

This right grants all the rights mentioned below and allows the user to do everything with section templates<\/p>\n

base.framework.sectionTemplates.view<\/h3>\n

This right is required to access the section templates via Framework => Section Templates<\/strong>. Furthermore it is required for the \u201cOpen Preview\u201d action.<\/p>\n

base.framework.sectionTemplates.create<\/h3>\n

This right is required to create new section templates. Together with base.framework.sectionTemplates.edit <\/strong>it is required to clone templates.<\/p>\n

base.framework.sectionTemplates.edit<\/h3>\n

This right is required to edit existing section templates. Together with base.framework.sectionTemplates.create <\/strong>it is required to clone templates.<\/p>\n

base.framework.sectionTemplates.delete<\/h3>\n

This right is required to delete existing section templates.<\/p>\n

Changes in version 2.1.0<\/strong><\/h3>\n
